- We have first floor space for 2-4 artists. The spaces are lockable and in secure, centrally heated, well lit accommodation with 24 hour access including shared toilets and kitchen, free wireless internet and free car parking (in adjacent council run car park).
- There is also a large ground floor exhibition/ event /meeting / workshop space with large windows directly on to the street. Other resources may also be available by negotiation. There is a disabled access toilet also on the ground floor.
- Costs are negotiable but expected to be between £60 and £150 per calendar month.
- Wash Arts Community Interest Company is a not for profit participatory arts organisation that has a history of successful projects in the community. We utilise a wide range of art-forms and recruit freelance practitioners to help local residents of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to express themselves and develop their creative potentials.
- The expectation is that artists will integrate with Wash Arts as our aim is to create a collaborative community within the new venue that makes a positive contribution to developing the cultural and creative scene in Erewash. Requests for the spaces will therefore be subject to a selection process.
- Ilkeston is a busy market town situated between Nottingham and Derby. It is a few miles from junctions 25 and 26 of the M1 and in easy reach by car or public transport from Derby and Nottingham. We have seen and have contributed to significant growth in The Arts in the area over the past five years.
- There are initiatives such as Shed 2, Harrington Mills and Frailoop studios, The Beetroot Tree Gallery, Erewash Borough Council’s Festival of Light, Ilkeston Festival, Long Eaton Artroom, CAFE (Culture and Arts Forum Erewash’s) forthcoming rEvive empty shops project and Ilkeston Ormiston Academy’s Art Centre (due to open later this year).
- There is therefore a strong and active community of artists, arts organisations and arts professionals living and working in the area. CURRENT PROJECT

'Pass the Source' is a community arts project that enables people to create, edit and share images, films and sound and music recordings inspired by local life, using free Open Source creative software and social media.
Sessions are held at Cotmanhay Enterprise Centre in Ilkeston. 'Pass the Source' has been funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, through their national 'Learning Revolution' programme and is open to anyone aged 19 or over from Ilkeston and surrounding areas.
It has already received much interest as a sustainable means of engaging people in informal community-led learning. The project will be of interest to anyone interested in photography and photo editing, film and animation making and editing, sound and music recording and editing, reminiscences, story-telling and/or sharing information with others via a range of social media applications such as Facebook.
One group that has already benefitted from the project is the newly formed Action4Cotmanhay group which has now created its own Facebook Group site as a result of attending one of our sessions. They will be returning to find out how to edit and share photos and other media on their site using free software.
The project has been taking place since last November and has been an exciting journey for both participants and Wash Arts. Participants have been working in collaboration with digital artist Tom Hall and musician Corey Mwamba and you can see some of the results so far on the project's own social network site at www.passthesource.ning.com
